My interest in maritime security started when I joined the German Navy where I spent six years as an officer. While I left the navy many years ago, I am still an officer in the naval reserves, going back to work on active duty from time to time.
Before starting to work in my current role, I was a journalist for various newspapers and magazines and a freelance public relations consultant. Most of the time, I was advising clients in various industries on media and crisis communication strategies.
Through my PhD research, I got in touch with Risk Intelligence, a Denmark-based security intelligence company. After joining in 2014, I am currently an analyst, primarily for maritime security issues in West and Central Africa.
My academic CV includes degrees in Germany and the United Kingdom. I am holding a BA in Politics and Organisation from the University of Hagen in Germany and an MA in International Studies from Durham University. I have also received my PhD in maritime security at the University of Greenwich in London.
